Silversea’s S.A.L.T. heads down under for the first time

Adam Sachs, curator, to devise localised menu for Silver Nova and Silver Moon

Silversea this week celebrated a “phenomenal year” with an event in Sydney to also mark the launch of its ‘Myths & Treasures’ voyage collection for 2025/26 that opened to general sale on Tuesday this week. The program will include Silversea’s first S.A.L.T. (Sea and Land Taste) experience in Australasian waters, with a designer menu still to be crafted.

The program comprises over 150 new sailings to more than 200 destinations, which includes two new Grand Voyages: The Grand South Pacific Expedition 2025 – a 75-day voyage aboard Silver Cloud from Fremantle to Valparaiso, priced from AU$120,000 per person twin share; and the Grand Australia 2025 – a 47-day circumnavigation of Australia aboard the brand new Silver Nova, roundtrip from Melbourne, priced from $46,400 per person twin share.

The 2025/26 season in Australia will see not only Silversea’s newest hardware – in Silver Nova – down under  but also Silver Moon which entered service in 2021. Silver Nova will sail to Australia via Asia and Japan, commencing in the north and sailing to New Zealand.

Philippa Walker, Marketing Director – Asia Pacific, Silversea Cruises said Silver Nova has been in huge demand since launching in the Mediterranean in August. Walker, who joined Silversea in March, had her first Silversea experience aboard Nova in Europe a few weeks ago, and said the design delivers the ‘wow’ factor.

A warm water ship that’s “definitely a bit different to the rest of our fleet,” Walker enthused over the new design concept of Silver Nova, which will be replicated on sister-ship Silver Ray when she begins operation in 2024.

Silversea President Barbara Muckermann, who was in Hong Kong last month and left a message for guests, refers to the Nova class vessels as a “ship of light”. The exterior of the ultra-luxury ship is floor-to-ceiling glass, the purpose of which is to let natural light flood in, captured best in the light-filled atrium with its glass lifts.

In a video, Muckermann said Silver Nova‘s design was a “breakthrough luxury ship” and the most sustainable vessel in its segment, with LNG and a multi-hybrid system.

The design which positions the rooftop venues and pool deck facing one side is “also a breakthrough from an architectural perspective with an incredible asymmetrical design,” Muckermann added.

Walker referenced a personal experience when onboard in port in Trieste, enjoying an al fresco breakfast at La Terrazza restaurant, overlooking the town and piazza, and feeling immersed in the energy of the Italian city all from the comfort of the ship.

Silver Nova and Silver Moon‘s arrival in 2025/26 will see the debut of the S.A.L.T. program in the region.

Over the coming year, Silversea will start to unfurl how the S.A.L.T. program will look in Australia. Its curator, Adan Sachs, will be coming down under to devise the program in the Oceania region, Walker revealed.

“S.A.L.T. is about bringing the food and the wine of where you are travelling onboard the ship and onshore,” Walker described.

Of the ecosystem, S.A.L.T. Kitchen features a menu that changes daily with local ingredients onboard, while the S.A.L.T. Lab is an open kitchen during the day where guests can experience cooking classes and by night the venue converts to a 10-course Chef’s Table experience, catering for a group of just 20 people. 

Off the ship, the onshore S.A.L.T. experience goes beyond visiting a local market with the ship’s chef, instead taking a deep dive into a chef’s own private garden, or experiencing a Michelin-star chef’s restaurant.

Walker also used the event to welcome Alyce Nelson to the local team. Nelson takes the role of Marketing Campaigns Manager–Asia Pacific with Silversea, covering Charis Hilderbrando who will be taking materinty leave in the coming weeks.

Based in Sydney, Nelson has prior marketing experience with Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean Group and Bill Peach Journeys.
