Finnair has this week confirmed it will push back the planned switch across to the Avios loyalty program for its frequent flyer members from the previously earmarked late January 2024 date to 6 March.
The “new era” for the Finnair Plus program required more time due to the “technical work to implement the changes across our systems”, with Finnair informing members that “we still need a little more time to develop and test the renewed services to ensure they work smoothly”.
Avios is the loyalty currency for our oneworld partner airline loyalty programs British Airways Executive Club, Qatar Airways Privilege Club and Iberia Plus.
Transferring Avios between British Airways and Finnair accounts will be possible during spring 2024, however, transfers between Qatar Airways’ and Finnair’s frequent flyer programs is not possible.
As of 9 March 2024, Finnair Plus members will collect Avios as the new loyalty currency, and tier points based on purchases made with Finnair. The airline will also introduce new milestone benefits within tiers, and new tier limits. Members will be able to reach tiers based on the number of flights until the end of February.
The Finnair Plus program will continue to have five tiers: Finnair Plus Basic, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Platinum Lumo. The oneworld member carrier has revised the tier point limits required to reach different tiers to reflect the new spend-based earn of tier points. The new tier limits will take effect as of 9 March 2024.
All Finnair Plus award points will be converted automatically into Avios with a 3:2 ratio – 3 award points equal 2 Avios. The value of a Finnair Plus members’ existing points will not change when switching to Avios, as the prices in Avios will be updated with the same 3:2 ratio.
The system changeover will take place over four days on 8-11 March 2024.
