Regent Seven Seas Cruises is foreshadowing huge demand for its first-ever World Cruise operated by an Explorer-Class vessel, which will go on sale to the public next week from 10 April 2024.

Cruise buffs new and old from around the globe will be vying to secure one of the 375 berths on the 140-night 2027 World Cruise – The World of Splendor aboard Seven Seas Splendor, which will sail from Miami on 11 January 2027.

Steve Odell, Chief Sales Officer for Regent Seven Seas Cruises is particularly excited about the four-and-a-half month-long sailing, telling LATTE it will be “the best ship doing a world cruise, bar none.”

Odell says Seven Seas Splendor in its own right will be a huge lure for returning Regent world cruise guests, as well as for repeat Splendor fans, and even new-to-cruise audiences.

“For the regular world cruiser the itinerary is a ‘classic’ with all the essential elements. It’s got everything. The South Pacific and Australia, a big chunk of Asia and a well-rounded exploration of the Mediterranean to finish the journey.”

In the past, Regent Seven Seas Cruises has assigned its older ships Mariner and Navigator to world cruises. The deployment of Splendor presents newer hardware, with more dining options and larger top-end suites.

Seven Seas Splendor was launched in 2020 as Regent’s second of three Explorer-Class ships, behind Seven Seas Explorer which debuted in 2016, and the luxury line’s latest ship Seven Seas Grandeur that only entered service late last year.

“When you’ve got new ships there’s a lot of demand for them on shorter cruises for the FIT market. 10-, 12- and 14-night itineraries. New ships tend to operate on the Mediterranean and Caribbean circuits and then are expanded out,” Odell explained. Case in point, Explorer has been positioned in the Asia Pacific region for half the year, and will then head to Alaska.

“These ships have such a following, its beautiful hardware, but the big thing is they have more than double the number of big suites than there is on Mariner,” Odell emphasised. Regent typically sells from the top down, meaning the larger, more expensive accommodations are snapped up first.

“We never have enough of the big suites – Concierge and Penthouses – for customers so now we’ll have a lot more,” he says of the more modern vessel.

Splendor also brings with it an improved dining selection,” Odell adds, with another option including the Pan-Asian restaurant, Pacific Rim, found on the Explorer-Class ships.

And while Regent may have sold out previous World Cruises within hours during the pandemic, Odell says he already has a positive vibe from past guests for the 2027 offering.

“It’s been teased to past customers for a week. Our regular world cruisers are already locked in with requests.

“I’ve got a very good vibe, because of Splendour and the itinerary, and people are planning earlier than before,” he says.

“In COVID we were selling out World Cruises in 24 hours. Since then I would say demand has slightly shifted.

“It’s hard to say where it will end but the sentiment seems very strong and I’m very confident it will do very well.”

“The world cruise passenger is very unique. They are regulars but I think there are more people that want to take this approach to getting around the globe. Go for a long time. You settle in. We take you to new places.

“I think there’s a wave of new world cruise clients waiting in the wings. Really seasoned travellers that want the easy approach,” Odell adds.

But not all World Cruise guests are regulars.

“Although it’s quite surprising, we do still tend to get the first-time cruiser booking a world cruise. It’s quite an amazing phenomenon to me really,” he quips.
