Through Purkal Stree Shakti Samiti, women of the local Purkal village have the opportunity to boost their economic status and position in the family through employment. Throughout the past 16 years, the organisation has grown to employ 169 artisan women, working on empowering them through the promotion of sustainable growth, zero hunger, health and well-being, decent wages and a responsible production and consumption mentality.
Adventure World Travel is committed to responsible tourism, operating on the ideology of ‘leave no trace’ tourism, the partnership reflects the brand’s sustainable ethos of supporting local communities through this employment opportunity.
The wallet orders will support training and skill development in design and production as well as regular employment to many local women in Purkal, located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The wallets are made from locally sourced materials and each item will also include details about Purkal Stree Shakti Samiti and the quality of handiwork that goes into creating each wallet the guest receives.
Neil Rodgers, Managing Director of Adventure World Travel said the soft-adventure company has spent the past year collaborating with Purkal Stree Shakti Samiti to develop the wallets.
“Adventure World is a full service business. We recruit specialists with a high level of product knowledge and expertise and I believe for our style of travel, advisors need to work with their clients all the way through and we need to support you. So what better way to do that than when we are at documentation stage.”
“We’re proud as a company to be able to support a local organisation such as Purkal Stree Shakti Samiti, and we know our guests will appreciate the care that has gone into creating each travel wallet they receive. We’ve invested in enhancing our documentation to reflect our tailor-made touch, and to give agents something handcrafted they can present to their clients for that real ‘wow’ moment.”
The blue-box also provides clients with a “Tiffany moment”, inside they will find a hand-stitched hessian document that includes a bookmark that describes the woman’s journey.
The wallets are supplied to Adventure World Travel clients spending $10,000+ per booking. Customers can also forfeit the wallet in preference for e-docs, with the company to donate funds to One Tree Planted instead.
