Sea Cloud Spirit delivered ahead of September launch

New vessel powered by nature and 4,100 square metres of sails

Sea Cloud Cruises has taken delivery of its new vessel, Sea Cloud Spirit, from the Vigo, Spain shipyard.

At 138-metres in length, and with a capacity of 136-passengers, Sea Cloud Spirit will become the third ship for Sea Cloud Cruises, which currently sail the Sea Cloud and the Sea Cloud II. Sea Cloud is the oldest sailing passenger ship in the world.

Like her sister ships, Sea Cloud Spirit will offer upscale cruising, 25 of the 69 outside cabins will be equipped with balconies, including the three owner suites. The spacious wellness area will impress with three treatment rooms, a Finnish sauna, a steam bath, and a hairdressing salon. The separate fitness area will be located on the sundeck of the ship.

Some 4,100 square metres of sails will billow under the sky, surrounded by wind and waves, bringing guests up close to nature. The new ship represents environment-friendly, gentle eco-tourism at the highest level. Eco-friendly marine-diesel is already used on both existing tall-ships, and a low consumption hybrid machine (diesel-electric) will be used for the Sea Cloud Spirit.

Like her sister ships, the majority of each trip is conducted under the sails, engines off, the cleanest way to travel.

The maiden voyage of Sea Cloud Spirit is planned for 14 September, a 10-night roundtrip voyage from Rome. The ship will spend the northern autumn in the Western Mediterranean and then the Canary Islands.
