Travel advisors can sharpen their knowledge on the Whitsundays following the launch of new and revamped destination training tools by the region’s tourism bureau, Tourism Whitsundays.Tourism Whitsundays CEO Tash Wheeler said the tools have been developed to help travel agents around the world stay up to date with what is happening and to educate frontline sellers. The tools include a video presentation by Tourism Whitsundays’ marketing team who provide details on the Whitsundays’ key selling points, location, accessibility, climate, bucket list activities, accommodation options, island resorts, events and overnight sailing and bareboating options. There’s also a training guide and a cheat sheet on the fast facts about the region.“Time and time again people find it confusing because they’re just not sure how to get here and are surprised how easy it is to access,” Wheeler told LATTE.“We are quite diverse in our offering, from our spectacular beaches from Hamilton Island to Airlie Beach to Bowen. These tools aim to inspire travel agents while they are going through some challenges right now and to keep the Whitsundays front of mind,” she said.Other tools available include product manuals, images, maps, e-news and collateral, which can be accessed online here. A suite of Zoom desktop backgrounds are also available and can be downloaded here.Additionally, the team at Tourism Whitsundays are able to arrange Zoom meetings and online training.Despite the current travel downturn and uncertainty, Wheeler said the region is “staying positive and looking forward”. Already there has been rekindled interest from the wedding market for later in the year.“Additionally, all those people that may have been planning to go overseas, now we can keep the Whitsundays front of mind and we hope that agents with clients looking for a lucrative time consider the Whitsundays,” Wheeler added.Tourism Whitsundays hosts around 60 travel advisors from Australia and internationally each year on famils. With a focus on domestic tourism likely for the foreseeable future, there’s the potential of more educational opportunities opening up in the second half of 2020.“It would be great to see more and more people coming in and learning about the Whitsundays, when the time is right to do so,” she concluded.
