VIKING EXPEDITION SHIPS OF THE MONTH WEEK 1 OF 4
Viking’s identical sister ships, Viking Octantis and Viking Polaris, are purpose-built for expeditions to optimise exploring the remotest parts of the world in comfort. Featuring Viking’s signature serene Scandinavian design, they are small enough to navigate remote areas but large enough to provide speed, superior handling, and stability in rough seas. These vessels merge comfort and exploration in an unprecedented way.Viking Octantis and Viking Polaris were launched in 2022 and completed their maiden voyages to Antarctica and North America’s Great Lakes. They have a gross tonnage of 30,150 tonnes, with 189 staterooms that host 378 guests; the ships feature all-balcony staterooms and six dining options, all at no additional charge.Viking put great effort into envisioning what an expedition should be. The result is a distinctly Viking experience from the moment you step on board. Their expedition ships are customised to navigate the planet’s most remote environments but offer the same comfort as their ocean and river ships.Esteemed hotel designers were engaged to design and furnish their beautiful interiors, so that from the moment a guest steps on board they will feel the same sense of serenity, warmth and comfort symbolised in the Norwegian concept of hygge. This notion of quiet contentment is in the very air of their light-filled, serene spaces, which together create a true home at sea for their guests.

The Living Room & Bar

The Living Room’s clinker-built bar, inspired by ancient Viking longships, is perhaps the most charming at sea. Located at the heart of the ship, it is the ideal setting to relax with a drink and catch up with new friends.

Explorers’ Lounge

With two-storey panoramic windows ensuring incredible views are always on display, the Explorers’ Lounge is inspired by epic journeys of discovery. There’s no better place to share a glass of wine with friends and take in the magnificence of our world.

Finse Terrace

An outdoor lounge area just above sea level with recessed, heated couches and lava rock “firepits,” the Finse Terrace was designed to allow guests the comforts of the ship al fresco while enjoying the dramatic scenery. Named after the Finse Plateau in Norway, where some of the greatest polar explorers, including Nansen and Amundsen, did their expedition training in preparation for their North and South Pole expeditions.

The Nordic Spa

Everyone deserves to be pampered every now and then, and Viking make this easier than ever on their expedition ships by offering all guests complimentary access to The Nordic Spa facilities. Wade in the calming hydrotherapy pool, detoxify in the steam room or meditate on the heated beds. If you feel like working up a sweat, embrace the true spirit of the Vikings with the centuries-old Nordic bathing ritual of hot-cold therapy to detoxify the body, relax tired muscles and boost circulation.
